Avondale's Willis Park Re-Opening Soon

New playground equipment, benches, swings, paths and a pavilion will be ready to go on April 18.

AVONDALE ESTATES, GA -- Avondale Estates officials have set a re-opening date for Willis Park.

The park, which has undergone an extensive overhaul in recent months, is tentatively scheduled to be open to the public on Monday, April 18.

Contractors are working on the final phase of the renovation, the city said in an email.

A final walk-through with contractors is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, and if everything looks good, it will be re-opened the following Monday.

Renovations at the popular park began late last year.

It sits next to The Museum School off of Dartmouth Avenue and has, at times, been blocked entirely to pedestrian traffic during the renovation.

New playground equipment, benches, swings, pathways and a new pavilion will be fully accessible upon re-opening, the city said.

However, a playing field will remain fenced off for an additional 30 days so sod there can fully establish.

"The City thanks everyone for their patience during the renovation," the email reads.
