'Because of Winn Dixie' Author Visiting Decatur Students
The public can attend the Nov. 14 visit by two-time Newberry Medalist Kate DiCamillo.

Two Decatur elementary schools are hosting a visit by two-time Newberry Medalist and author Kate DiCamillo this Friday, Nov. 14.
According to City Schools of Decatur, Oakhurst Elementary and Glennwood Elementary applied through the On The Same Page campaign to have DiCamillo visit the schools. She wrote the popular novel “Because of Winn-Dixie.”
The schools were selected and Decatur residents can join students at DiCamillo’s visit at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event will be first come, first seated.

About “Because of Winn-Dixie”
When 10-year-old India Opal returns home with a stray dog named Winn-Dixie, things begin to change in Naomi, Florida. Winn-Dixie helps Opal make friends with the endearing outcasts of Naomi, including a woman rumored to be a witch, the elderly town librarian, and an ex-con musician who runs the local pet store. Through these new friendships, Opal learns that everyone has a sorrow to let go of and a story to tell.
