Bike Registration Event Set for Friday
Decatur police are asking bicycle owners to help prevent thefts.

Citing an increase in bicycle thefts, Decatur police are holding a bike registration event Friday, Oct. 2, from 4-7 pm at Columbia Theological Seminary.
“Since the beginning of the year there have been 77 reported bicycle thefts within the city of Decatur,” according to a statement from the department. “There has been a noticeable increase in bicycle thefts since August 1. During this time there have been 38 bicycles stolen: nine from the north side of Decatur and 29 from the south side.”
Police say the majority of the thefts have occurred in Oakhurst and Winnona Park.

Bicycle registration includes providing owner contact information, having the manufacturer and serial number documented and having a numbered decal applied to and a photo taken of the bicycle. There is no charge to register your bicycle.
