Are Childhood Obesity Rates Rising or Falling?

Compared to 2003 are the obesity rates among children in lower income family on the rise or on the decline? The Journal of the American Medical Association reports from December 2012.

Childhood Obesity Rates Falling!
During the first decade of the 21st century, childhood obesity rates among children in lower income families in the United States have decreased (14.94% in 2010 vs. 15.21% in 2003).

I found this data to be quite shocking.  I know the change isn't dramatic and I can't really make sense of it other than maybe programs like the NFL's Play 60 are starting to help children live a more active lifestyle than in the previous decade.

With the rates of Cancer, Heart Disease and Diabetes on the rise perhaps this is a sign that the future generation will be able to reverse that trend!
