Greenville Bound!

A Brief Look at the ever expanding cycling haven of Greenville.

This weekend I am heading up to Greenville, South Caroline to visit with a good friend. I am looking forward to my trip for three reasons:

1. Greenville is a cool town.
2. I haven’t seen my friend in ages and am looking forward to catching up.
3. Greenville is an ever expanding cycling town.

If you haven’t been to Greenville I would suggest checking it out. It is a pretty short drive from Atlanta and has a lot to offer. Perched along the Reedy River, the town is small enough to get around, yet big enough to have a good selection of things to do.

My favorite area is downtown with it’s neat restaurants and local bars with some pretty decent brews. Greenville is close to some colleges and universities, so there is a bit of a college feel to the downtown area, but it is large enough that you won’t feel out of place if you haven’t seen the inside of a college classroom in some years.

And, perhaps most importantly, Greenville is fast becoming a really great cycling destination. There are some great road rides in and around the town and you are only a short drive to some fantastic mountain biking. Plus, Greenville is the off-season home to one of my favorite riders in the professional peloton: George Hincapie. He is known to be one of the hardest working cyclists out there, and, from all reports I have heard, a really stand-up guy to boot.

I will report on any and all cycling related activities I get up to this weekend and will include some photos as well. Also, you will be one of the first to hear if there is a Big George sighting!
