Marijuana and Prescription Drugs are number 1 and 2 for Abuse in US

Prescription drug abuse is just behind marijuana as the United States' most widespread drug issue, with 22 million people beginning use of non-medically prescribed pain alleviating drugs since 2002. Rates of abuse span from 3.6% in Iowa to 6.4% in Oregon.

Addressing prescription drug misuse remains a top public health priority. The key is educating the public on the serious health risks involved.

There seems to be a pervasive belief in the United States that there is a pill for every problem and that taking pills comes with very little risk.  There is a huge portion of the population that wouldn't think twice about taking a pill that is known to kill 16,000 people a year due to gastro-intestinal bleeding.  You know why?  Cause that pill is Tylenol and people think it is entirely safe and without risk.  Yet, a chunk of the population is scared to try acupuncture or chiropractic care that comes with very little risk.
