Readers can stock up on books for their fall reading at the Friends of the Decatur Library Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will take place on the ground floor of the library located at 215 Sycamore St. Proceeds support Decatur library programs for children, youth and adults.
Readers can shop fiction and mystery titles as well as a variety of non-fiction categories such as history, biography, sports, health and cooking. There will also be a wide selection of books for children and young adults.

Most hardback books are $2; most paperback books are $1. Credit cards, cash and checks are accepted, and shoppers should bring their own bags.
Because of building security updates, shoppers will enter the library on the main floor and use the elevator to get to the sale on the ground floor.

The evening begins with Eugène Gigout's Grand Chœur Dialogué, a jubilant and majestic work whose brilliant fanfare-like character and festive spirit provide a stirring welcome to a new season. Rich in color and ceremonial grandeur, it sets the stage for an evening of extraordinary music.
Internationally acclaimed Spanish-Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit joins the orchestra for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, one of the most beloved and exhilarating works in the classical repertoire. Praised by Le Devoir as "a moving young poet," Cano Smit is celebrated for his captivating performances, storytelling artistry, and nuanced musicality. Winner of the 2019 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition, he has appeared with leading orchestras throughout North America and Europe and has earned international acclaim for performances that combine extraordinary virtuosity with profound musical insight. His artistry is an ideal match for Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, whose iconic opening, soaring melodies, intimate lyricism, and breathtaking technical brilliance have captivated audiences for generations.
The concert concludes with Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9, a work that delighted and puzzled its first audiences. Expected to compose a monumental victory symphony celebrating the end of World War II, Shostakovich instead delivered a compact, witty, and brilliantly orchestrated masterpiece filled with sparkling humor, playful irony, and moments of lyrical reflection. Brimming with energy and imagination, the symphony reveals the composer's unmistakable voice while offering a fresh and unexpected conclusion to an evening of celebration, virtuosity, and musical discovery.

LakeFest is a two-day festival on the shores of beautiful Pine Lake, GA, featuring the best that Pine Lake has to offer by way of artists and crafters, live music, health and wellness vendors, food trucks and family fun. There are chalk art and sand sculpture contests at the Beach with prizes, a Pet Parade (bring your pet and march!), a Kids' Carnival with fall-themed crafts and games, street performers, and don't miss our signature Paddlepalooza! floating parade and races on the Lake with prizes (preregister and float your boat!) 
The art market will feature handmade work by 45 artists from all over Georgia. There will be music-all-day-long with a dozen musicians and bands on the lakeside Festival Stage. We present local favorites and new music in a variety of styles. Pine Lake is located just 12 miles east of Atlanta between Decatur and Stone Mountain. Admission and parking are free. Park on Rockbridge Road near the entrance to the city and take a shuttle to lakefront. Stay and play: the lake is surrounded by a park, a playground, and wetlands with picnic spots and walking trails.
