Changing Atlanta 1950-1999: The Challenges of a Growing Southern Metropolis

Exhibition at Emory University's Woodruff Library through June. Changing Atlanta 1950-1999: The Challenges of a Growing Southern Metropolis.

This new exhibition examines the city of Atlanta’s rapid growth during the second half of the 20th century and how city leaders and citizens met the challenges. A panel discussion with curators on April 12 will give the public more insight into Atlanta’s greatest period of expansion.

Featuring materials from the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, this exhibition focuses on four areas: changes in the Georgia political system and the revitalization of the state Republican Party; Georgia’s response to the federal mandate to integrate the public schools; the effect of advocacy in social planning; and the involvement of neighborhood associations in major city decisions.

The exhibition, located in the Schatten Gallery at Emory University's Robert W. Woodruff Library, is free and open to the public. The Woodruff Library is located at 540 Asbury Cir, Atlanta, GA, 30322. The exhibition is on display through June 19, 2016.
