Chipotle Hit With Federal Grand Jury Subpoena

The investigation is tied to a norovirus outbreak at one of its California restaurants.

Chipotle Mexican Grill has been served with a federal grand jury subpoena regarding a norovirus outbreak last year at one of its California restaurants.

The announcement came Wednesday.

Chipotle -- whose metro Atlanta locations include Buckhead, Midtown, North Druid Hills, Dunwoody, Tucker and Virginia Highland -- is required to produce documents that are tied to the Simi Valley restaurant where the virus was detected.

Other Chipotles in several states were linked to an E. coli outbreaks last October and November.

Company sales fell 30 percent in December.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, headquartered near Emory University in Virginia Highland, says people can get a norovirus from drinking infected food or water, or by coming into contact with infected persons or contaminated surfaces.
