Church Offers Daytime, Evening 'Growing through Grief' Support Groups to Public

Small groups gather to share and journey through experiences of grief together

Shallowford Presbyterian Church announced two ‘Growing through Grief’ support groups that will meet at the church beginning in August. The public is invited to participate in a free series of small group meetings to take steps toward wholeness and healing after suffering a loss. Facilitators maintain complete confidentiality.

The daytime series runs on Thursday mornings, August 11 through September 29, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dr. Jan Ziegler, a loving and experienced psychologist, will facilitate the group. The evening series runs on Wednesdays, August 17 through September 21, from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. Leaders are Mary Ellen Pendergrast and Ed Carithers, both experienced facilitators. The groups are open to listening, sharing and supporting each other.

Meetings take place at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, Atlanta, 30345. For questions, contact Rev. Robby Carroll at 404.216.3882 or rcarroll@shallowford.org; Dr. Jan Ziegler at 803.920.4037 or drjz@bellsouth.net.

“In a grief group, we discover we do not need to face our loss alone,” said Rev. Robby Carroll. “We reach out to each other with love, understanding and hope...
We come together from all walks of life,
from many different circumstances. Support groups are an effective way to help us heal.”

“Because it offers a safe place for us to do the work of mourning, the group encourages members to face their losses and go on to find continued meaning in life and living,” said Dr. Jan Zeigler. “Attending a support group facilitated by skilled leaders can often bring comfort and understanding of ourselves and others.”

“The support group provides emotional and spiritual support in a safe, nonjudgmental environment,” continued Dr. Zeigler. “Participants can explore their thoughts and feelings in a way that helps them to engage once again in life.”
