City of Atlanta and Fulton County Recreation Authority provides $65,000 to Zoo Atlanta

AFCRA provides project funding to Zoo Atlanta

The City of Atlanta and Fulton County Recreation Authority (AFCRA) today announced it has provided $65,000 to Zoo Atlanta for three projects: $22,000 towards a bio-filtration system for the otters exhibit, $18,000 towards a bio-filtration system for the flamingos exhibit and $25,000 for upgrades to the picnic area.

“Any time we can meet a community need in the City of Atlanta or Fulton County we make every effort to allocate the appropriate funds,” said Violet Ricks, executive director of AFCRA. “The funding of these projects for Zoo Atlanta supports the mission of AFCRA.”

The bio-filtration systems for the flamingos and otters exhibits more effectively skims particulate matter in the water for cleaner water quality and clearer water clarity, allowing for more healthy habitats for the animals. Upgrades to the picnic area include ground and drainage improvements to help with future stormwater management.
