City Of Decatur To Furlough Part-Time Employees

Decatur is expected to furlough 20 part-time employees due to the coronavirus pandemic.

DECATUR, GA — The City of Decatur will furlough 20 year-round, part-time employees effective May 23. City officials said the furloughs are due to the “unprecedented issues” caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is the result of city building closures and cancellations of all city programs and activities.

“We remain committed to continuing to provide high quality services to the community
especially during this public health emergency,” said City Manager Andrea Arnold in a statement. “However, the financial impact of the COVID-19 crisis requires that we must make some difficult decisions to control expenses. Our employees are our most important resource, and any decision that negatively impacts our employees is not an easy one.”

According to the city, the furlough is expected to be both temporary and short-term with the intention to have workers return once the city is able to resume its normal business practices.
