Clairmont Presbyterian Raises More Than $7K for Goats in Haiti
Clairmont Presbyterian Church raised more than $7,000 to purchase goats for Haitian residents affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Decatur, GA, May 26, 2017– Clairmont Presbyterian Church, located at 1994 Clairmont Road in Decatur, GA, is proud to announce it has raised more than $7,000 for the Haiti La Gonave Goat Project.
La Gonave is an island in Haiti, only accessible by boat. There are few roads and most residents travel by motorcycle, by donkey, or by foot. The average family income is $1.40 per day. On October 4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit La Gonave, destroying homes, washing away newly planted crops and killing more than 200 goats. The goat farmers lost their livelihood and the ability to put meat on the family’s table, pay for their children’s education, and purchase medicine.
CPC, along with other churches from the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, recently spent the last few weeks raising money to purchase more goats for the farmers, which cost $200 each.

“CPC was been involved with the La Gonave Project since its inception 16 years ago,” explained Edna Jennings, a member of Clairmont Presbyterian. “Other churches in the area donate as well, but I think we’re the only ones who have actual live goats in attendance!”
“I feel so privileged to have a tiny part in this ministry that I have added a bequest in my will to the Haitian Partnership,” added church member Anne Kilpatrick. “I know exactly how the money is spent and the difference one goat can make in a family's life. Having a goat can make the difference in a family's ability to send a child to school or buy medicine.”

Because of the church’s commitment to this project, Clairmont has been given the honor to name one of the bucks (male goat). The church will hold a congregation-wide vote to determine the buck’s name.
