Come Sing with the Oakhurst Community Choir!

Come sing with the Oakhurst Community Choir, a fun, low-key, non-audition neighborhood choir. Want to try it out? Join us for Porchfest!

Do you love Porchfest and wish you could be part of the action? This year the Oakhurst Community Choir is offering all community members a “Come and Sing” chance to participate in its Porchfest performance! Come attend a two-hour rehearsal (7-9pm) on Wednesday, October 5th, and a further one-hour rehearsal at 11am on Porchfest day (Oct. 8), immediately prior to the performance. We will learn two fabulous songs – Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World’ and Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ – and perform them at 12:00 and again at 12:30. Participation in Porchfest is completely free and gives you a chance to experience all the fun of singing in a community choir. When you register, you will receive the location of the porch and a link to some YouTube videos for extra practice at home; your sheet music will be supplied at the Wednesday rehearsal. So come along, bring your friends, and sing with your neighbors on this most special of Decatur days! Email oakhurstcc@gmail.com to register to sing with us at Porchfest!

Want even more singing fun? Join the Oakhurst Community Choir for its entire fall session! The OCC was set up in 2013 by Decatur residents Holly Scarborough and Alice Reeves as a friendly, non-audition, independent choir for adults and teens. The aim is to offer all members of the community a chance to experience the health, social and emotional benefits of communal singing in a fun and informal setting, including those who are new (or new again!) to choir or who may not be able to commit to attending every week. Rehearsals start September 21 and run through early December, and meet on Wednesday evenings (7:00pm-8:30pm) at the Solarium on West Hill Street, near Oakhurst Village. Members often go out for dinner or drinks in the Village following rehearsals. The first few rehearsals will be dedicated to preparing for Porchfest, after which we will learn holiday music to be featured at the Oakhurst tree lighting in December - a fun, festive, free event for which hundreds of community members now turn out – as well as other holiday performances. Membership costs $50 per session, including sheet music. To register, or for more information, contact Alice Reeves, Administrative Director, at oakhurstcc@gmail.com.
