Cops Shoot, Kill Man Armed With A Wrench

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office deputies were serving an arrest warrant on the man in Atlanta on Monday when he was shot.

ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a man shot and killed by DeKalb County Police officers who were serving an arrest warrant on him in Atlanta.

Levester Taylor, 39, was shot shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday at 1550 Marietta Rd., a property owned by Norfolk Southern Railroad in northwest Atlanta. According to the GBI, DeKalb deputies were trying to serve a felony arrest warrant on Taylor there.

While they were doing so, Taylor, armed with a pipe wrench, and a deputy got into a fight, the GBI said. Three deputies fired their handguns, striking Taylor, who died at the scene.

The Atlanta Police Department and Norfolk Southern Police Department also were involved in the case and requested the GBI to investigate, as is customary in Georgia with officer-involved shootings.

The GBI said Taylor worked for ITS ConGlobal, a contractor with Norfolk Southern.

Once the agency's investigation is finished, it will turn over its findings to the Fulton County District Attorney's office for review.
