Core Dance Presents “walk” May 5 and 12 at Serenbe and May 20 in Decatur

"walk" is a meditative dance work that celebrates the sacred space of a labyrinth. The outdoor performances will include live music.

Decatur’s Core Performance Company (CPC) will present “walk”, a meditative dance work that celebrates the sacred space of a labyrinth, at two metro Atlanta locations. Friday May 5 and May 12, the company will perform at Serenbe’s Rock Labyrinth on the grounds of Serenbe Inn, 10950 Hutchesons Ferry Rd., Palmetto, GA 30268. The evening will begin at 8 p.m. with a lantern parade, and “walk” will be performed at twilight – around 9:15 p.m. The audience is invited to also walk the labyrinth. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at http://www.coredance.org/coming-up.html. CPC will also perform “walk” on Saturday, May 20 on the Decatur Square at 8 p.m. The performance is free, and the audience is invited to walk the labyrinth. Both the Serenbe and Decatur performances are outdoor events with live music and limited seating, so patrons are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on. Rain or shine. “walk” contemplates the changing nature of the individual within our briskly changing world while the labyrinth offers the sacred space for this community experience.

“We are closing our 31st season in Atlanta with two community celebrations, which we are honored to “walk” and share with our neighbors and friends,” said Sue Schroeder, Core Dance artistic director. “The performance piece was originally created for the Freedmen’s Town Labyrinth in Houston. Since that initial performance, ‘walk’ has been performed in numerous labyrinths, including one that was designed and made specifically for Core Performance Company’s residency in St. Antonin Noble Val, France earlier this spring. Artistic collaborators for “walk” include Chantelle Rytter, who designed lanterns and creations for the labyrinths, Jay Staley, who designed and built the labyrinth for the Decatur performance, and Chip Epsten and Grady Cousins who composed the live music score.
