Coronavirus Town Hall In DeKalb Will Now Be Virtual
DeKalb County will no longer hold its town hall at Rehoboth Baptist Church. The meeting will be streamed online and social media.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County officials have changed Wednesday’s town hall meeting to a virtual one as a public safety move. After announcing earlier it would be held at Rehoboth Baptist Church, CEO Michael Thurmond said it will now be accessed from 7 - 9 p.m. online and Facebook.The virtual meeting will discuss the new coronavirus and how the county is prepared for an outbreak.
The meeting will include Thurmond, the board of commissioners, District Health Director Dr. S. Elizabeth Ford and DeKalb County School District Interim Superintendent Ramona Tyson.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the public town hall meeting will no longer be held at Rehoboth Baptist Church,” is posted on the county’s website.

Globally, more than 117,000 people have been infected and more than 4,000 people have died from the COVID-19, Johns Hopkins reported Tuesday. Of that total, more than 80,000 confirmed cases are in China, while the entire United States has 804 confirmed cases as of Tuesday afternoon. Twenty-three deaths in the U.S. have been tied to the virus outbreak.
