Decatur-based CORE Concludes its 30th Anniversary Season with experiment: question: refine at the High Museum May 13 and 15

CORE will present a world premier, created in partnership with the High Museum at 7 and 8 p.m. May 13 and 1 and 2 p.m. May 15. Free

CORE, the Decatur-based award-winning contemporary dance organization (www.coredance.org), will offer the final performances of its 30th Anniversary Season on Friday and Sunday, May 13 and 15 at the High Museum of Art in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition: Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion. The company will present a new dance work, experiment: question: refine in the Hill auditorium at 7 and 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13 and at 1 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. All performances are included in Museum admission.

experiment: question: refine is a world premier, created by Sue Schroeder, co-founder and artistic director of CORE, in collaboration with the dance artists of CORE Performance Company. It was commissioned by and created in partnership with the High Museum of Art especially for the Iris van Herpen exhibit, and marks CORE’s sixth partnership project with the High Museum. According to Schroeder, this original dance creation will hover between questions, experiments, refinement and the static emptiness that exist within van Herpen’s work, and will create a kinesthetic entry point for visitors into the Iris van Herpen exhibition.

“I am honored to close CORE’s 30th Anniversary Season in Atlanta with this special partnership with the High Museum of Art,” said Schroeder. “The creation of new works is tantamount to our mission, and this piece in particular, experiment: question: refine, which was created for and with the High Museum as its landscape, speaks to dance-making and art-making as important components of Atlanta’s cultural life. The evening will feature live music performed by Bent Frequency (Jan Baker and Stuart Gerber), adding the texture of sound to the experience.”
