Decatur Business Owner Robbed Outside Car

Decatur police are looking for the person who stole a businesswoman’s purse as she was walking to her car late at night.

A police report acquired by Decatur Metro says the woman was walking towards her car after leaving her business on West Ponce de Leon at 11 p.m. on July 10 when she noticed the dome light on her coworker’s car was active and the door was open for a prolonged period. As the woman approached her car, she noticed the suspect in the shadows.
The report says the suspect rushed the woman, shoved her to the ground, and demanded her purse. He then stole the purse, hopped a fence, and escaped. The coworker also noticed several items stolen from her car.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned black male who stands 6’ tall who was wearing a black shirt, black pants, and a black mask which obscured everything but his eyes.
After the robbery, police reminded residents that they could always call and request an escort when walking to their cars, especially late at night.
