Decatur churches team up to provide meals for 20,000 hungry children on September 14
Two local United Methodist churches, pastored by a "clergy couple," are teaming up to provide meals for 20,000 hungry kids.
Decatur, GA – Two local United Methodist churches are teaming up to provide meals for 20,000 hungry kids in the developing world. University Heights and North Decatur United Methodist Churches, pastored by the “clergy couple” team of the Rev. Stacey Rushing and the Rev. Dalton Rushing, respectively, have purchased the meals through Stop Hunger Now, a meal packaging program for hungry children. Twenty-five cents feeds a child for an entire day.
On Sunday, September 14 at 2pm, each church will stage a packaging event on its respective campus, in which 60+ volunteers will package 10,000 meals over a two-hour period in each location.
The original plan was for the Revs. Rushing to challenge each church to raise money in hopes that there could be a combined event, feeding 10,000 kids; the church that raised the most money would host the packaging event. However, each church gave so generously and so supported the campaign that each church is able to hold a packaging event on the 14th, and the number of children fed will be twice the original goal.

Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that works with churches, corporations, and civic organizations to bring awareness and relief to the problem of global hunger. The packaging event will involve an assembly line-type process, as meal packages are made which contain nutritious, vitamin-rich meals for school lunch programs worldwide.
Members of the community are invited to help package these meals; children as young as three years old can help with a parent’s help. To sign up, visit the websites of North Decatur UMC (ndumc.org) or University Heights UMC (uhumc.org).
