UPDATE: Decatur Police Release Name of Victim in Fatal Accident

A 33-year-old woman was killed and a three other people are hospitalized, police said.

UPDATE: Decatur police have identified the person who was killed in a two-car crash on Scott Boulevard on Saturday evening.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Jennifer Ross says that a vehicle attempting to turn on to eastbound Scott Boulevard from Ridley Circle collided with another vehicle traveling westbound on Scott Boulevard. Leah O’Brien, 33, of DeKalb County died in the 6 p.m. collision; her 8-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital and is reportedly in critical but stable condition.

The two occupants of the second vehicle, a 19-year-old male and 18-year-old female, were treated for non-life threatening injuries. The two were on the way to the Lakeside High School prom at the time of the accident, Ross says.

Police are continuing their investigation.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Decatur police are investigating a two-car accident which left a man dead on Saturday evening.

According to police, a vehicle attempting to turn on to eastbound Scott Boulevard from Ridley Circle collided with another vehicle traveling westbound on Scott Boulevard at approximately 6 p.m. One of the drivers was killed in the wreck, and his or her passenger is in critical condition.

Police said that the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Investigators will not release the names of any of the people involved in the accident until their families have been notified.
