Decatur School Board Picks New Chair

Annie Caiola, a trial lawyer, has lived in Decatur since 2005.

DECATUR, GA -- Annie Caiola, an attorney first elected to the City Schools of Decatur school board in 2013, has been unanimously elected its chairwoman.

Garrett Goebel, the outgoing chairman who served for one year, was elected the board’s vice-chair Tuesday night.

Goebel had said when elected by his peers last year that he’d support a system in which every school-board member had a turn serving as chair.

Caiola has lived in Decatur since 2005.

She and her husband, Greg, have two daughters, Abigail and Isabelle, both of whom started at College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center when they were infants.

Caiola earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She is a trial attorney with Slotkin & Caiola, LLC in downtown Decatur.

Caiola has served on the board of directors of the DeKalb Bar Association, is a member of Leadership DeKalb , and is a parishioner at St. Thomas More Church in Decatur.

Also Tuesday, new school board member Tasha White and Goebel, who was re-elected last year, were sworn in.
