Decatur Senator Calls on May to Resign

Meanwhile, the embattled interim CEO is not attending his own town hall meeting set for Thursday night.

State Sen. Emanuel Jones, whose district 10 includes portions of unincorporated south Decatur, is calling on DeKalb interim CEO Lee May to resign.

Jones, a Democrat, made his comments Wednesday night in an interview with Channel 2 Action News.

When asked if he thought May should resign, Jones said:

We’ve gone through this not very long ago with our current CEO. DeKalb doesn’t need to go through this again. And I would hope that the current CEO would do the right thing and resign.”

The investigation, conducted by former state Attorney General Mike Bowers and Richard Hyde, was released two weeks ago. It cited widespread corruption and improper spending from many elected and appointed county officials, including local commissioners Kathie Gannon and Jeff Rader.

It also called on May to resign.

In the meantime, reports are that May -- who has organized several town hall meetings throughout the county to talk about the report -- will not be attending one of those meetings, set for Thursday night at the Maloof Center in Decatur.

On her Facebook page, District 1 commissioner Nancy Jester announced that she will host the meeting for May and deliver a videotape of the event to his office.
