DeKalb Canine Officer Luca Retires With Handler
County commissioners held a retirement ceremony for Luca, who will live with her handler.
DECATUR, GA -- After 10 years on the force, Luca is retiring.
The canine officer got a special retirement ceremony at the last meeting of the DeKalb County Commission.
Luca is going to live with her handler, DeKalb Police officer J.D. Huckabey, who is also retiring after 28 years on the job.

It's been a busy decade for Luca, too.
According to a Facebook post by the county, she has had 75 arrests and seized $537,000 in drug money, 60,000 grams of methamphetamine and 318,000 grams of cocaine while on the job.

"A job well done and a retirement well deserved!" the post reads.
In an article last year in The Champion newspaper, Huckabey said he was inspired working with Luca as part of the department's K-9 force.
“Being a police officer is awesome, but being a canine handler is incredible,” Huckabey said at the time. “It’s the best job in the department. I have definitely found my calling for that.”
