DeKalb Commissioners Quietly Give Selves Big Raise

The move was approved Tuesday with no debate or discussion and reportedly didn't go through the normal committee process.

DECATUR, GA — DeKalb County Commission members quietly gave themselves a nearly 60-percent raise on Tuesday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the commission voted on the raise with no discussion at their Tuesday meeting. It was quickly introduced and passed without going through the commission's usual committee approval process and was not included on the meeting's agenda, according to the AJC.

On Jan. 1, commissioner base salaries will increase from $40,530 to $64,637. County CEO Mike Thurmond also will get a raise, from $162,120 to $166,209. Commissioners will get automatic raises in the future, with their salaries equaling 35 percent of what DeKalb County Superior Court judges make.
