Hey, everybody! It's Friday in Decatur-Avondale Estates and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening in town. Let's have at it...
First, today's weather:
Variably cloudy, a t-storm. High: 93 Low: 76.
Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- A feasibility study presented to the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in June showed the ideal location for a convention center in the northern part of the county, where commissioners say it is least needed. The study identified the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport as a location that could support retail, hotels, infrastructure, and access to transportation. The cost for the convention center and parking is estimated to be $140 million. (Decaturish.com )
- Local arts venue, Heck House, has temporarily postponed events as a result of code compliance issues and not having a business license. Founder and Executive Director Paula Novelle said Heck House is continuing some work, such as art projects and developing internal policies. Novelle posted on the Heck House Facebook page that DeKalb County code enforcement has insisted the venue refrain from having events until the business license application process is finished and code compliance requirements are met. - Forty-three-year-old Lewayne Terrell was shot to death outside a busy Publix shopping center around noon on Wednesday. Witnesses said Terrell was sitting in his car when he was shot, and that it was possibly the result of a road rage incident. Detectives said they are continuing to follow up on several promising leads. (WSB Atlanta)

Are you a Decatur-Avondale Estates resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
