🌱 DeKalb County Health Centers Extended Hours + Bright At Night Walk

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Decatur-Avondale Estates.

Hey, friends! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Decatur-Avondale Estates Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening in town...

First, today's weather:

Humid with a t-storm in spots. High: 88 Low: 72.

Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. DeKalb County health centers have been getting ready for the influx of students needing immunizations before the new school year starts. To help decrease waiting times, DeKalb County health centers will be extending their hours. The schedule is available here. As a reminder, City Schools of Decatur begins on Aug. 2 and the DeKalb County School District begins on Aug. 8. (On Common Ground News)
  2. Join the Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PAC) tonight, Friday, Jul. 22, for the Bright At Night walking event. In an effort to make sure community members feel safe enjoying Decatur by night, the PAC has gathered together to provide safe nighttime walking. Participants will receive wearable lights. For more information visit the Decatur Active Living page. (Decatur Active Living)
  3. Have you contributed to the accessible playground survey in Decatur's Legacy Park yet? Community members are invited to see what's underway at Legacy Park and how they can assist future efforts. You can find the survey here. (Decatur Legacy Park)

From my notebook:

  • Due to the surge in COVID cases, the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum needed to move their program with Dr. Jay Wellons with Dr. Hughes Evans, and the Decatur Library Auditorium was able to step in! This marks 18 years to the date that the Georgia Center for the Book and the Jimmy Carter Library jointly hosted the first of many author events. (Georgia Center for the Book at DCPL via Facebook)
  • Every Sunday is "fun-day" at the Avondale Estates Farmers Market! Stop by for your favorite fruits and vegetables from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 22 N Avondale Road, Avondale Estates 30002 (in the parking lot of My Parents' Basement). Bring a friend! (Avondale Estates Farmer's Market via Facebook)
