DeKalb Crash Involving School Bus Traps SUV Driver

DeKalb County School officials said no serious injuries were reported by the driver and two students aboard the school bus.

DECATUR — A DeKalb County school bus carrying two students collided with an SUV Thursday morning at Covington Highway and Lamar Street, DeKalb County School officials said.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Atlanta News First reported the SUV crashed into the bus, causing the SUV driver to be trapped and pulled from the vehicle.

DeKalb County Police said the school bus was stopped with flashing lights at the time.

The SUV driver was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

School officials said the driver and students aboard the bus were taken to a medical facility for evaluation though no serious injuries were reported by the bus passengers.

One of the students was from Peachcrest Elementary School while the other was a Bethune Elementary School student, school officials said.

The families of the students and the bus driver have been notified about the crash, school officials said.
