🌱 DeKalb DA Will Not Prosecute Abortions + Seminary Students Protest

Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- In response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the DeKalb District Attorney has announced that she will not be prosecuting women who have abortions within her jurisdiction. The 50-year-old legal precedent was struck down on Friday in a 5-4 decision by the United States Supreme Court. District Attorney Sherry Boston released a full statement on Friday about her decision to go against an upcoming Georgia abortion ban. (Decaturish.com)
- Two dogs have been named Lifeline Animal Project's Pets of the Week for DeKalb County. Gucci Mane and Lyric are currently at the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter awaiting new forever homes. Gucci Mane is a 4-year-old male. Lyric is a 2-year-old female. Click the following link to see if one of them is your new best friend. (Patch)
- Black students at Decatur's Columbia Theological Seminary are protesting the surprising dismissal of a beloved admissions director. According to the students, the firing of Rev. Samuel White is just the latest in a long line of recent dismissals of faculty members of color. The students are demanding that President Leanne Van Dyk resign immediately; she is slated to leave her post in six weeks. (Religion News Services)
