Higher Calling Christian Academy

Higher Calling Christian Academy (HCCA) is a faith-based learning community located in South DeKalb County dedicated to helping children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively in a safe and nurturing environment. Our Summer Camp 2026 theme, “Choose Your Adventure: A Summer of Discovery at HCCA,” gives families the flexibility to enroll their child for the entire summer or select individual weeks based on their child’s interests. Throughout the summer, campers ages 5–12 will experience engaging, hands-on learning through themed weeks focused on gardening and sustainability, STEAM exploration, sports and teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership, and creative discovery. Campers will participate in exciting activities including outdoor exploration, science experiments, engineering challenges, team games, creative arts, field trips, and youth business projects. A strong focus of our summer program is literacy and enrichment. Campers will participate in daily reading and enrichment activities designed to strengthen comprehension, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. As part of our literacy initiative, campers will visit the local public library twice each week to participate in summer reading opportunities, explore new books, and develop a love for reading and learning. What makes HCCA unique is our commitment to combining fun, enrichment, and purpose in a supportive Christian-centered environment. We strive to support the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of every child while encouraging creativity, confidence, leadership, and exploration. Families appreciate our flexible enrollment options, affordable pricing, extended hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., three meals provided daily, and CAPS acceptance. DECATUR, GA — A DeKalb County inmate died Sunday after being found unresponsive in his jail cell, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. Authorities identified the inmate as Van Lebron Johnson, 57. Jail and health services staff attempted emergency medical services on Johnson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.Johnson was arrested on Jan. 22 after authorities said he had been released several hours prior on an unsecured judicial release bond. He was charged on suspicion of criminal trespass, giving false name to law enforcement and interference with government property, authorities said.The local medical examiner will determine a cause of death, and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office of Professional Standards is investigating Johnson's death, authorities said.
