DeKalb Jail Inmate Dies in Custody
Deputies say the inmate attempted suicide on June 5; he was rushed to a hospital and had been on life support ever since.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that an inmate at the DeKalb County jail had died at a local hospital.

Markese Lashaun Lewis, 21, had been hospitalized ever since June 5; deputies say that Lewis attempted suicide on that date. Jail officers rendered emergency medical services to Lewis before he was transported to the hospital. Lewis had been on life support since he was admitted.
Lewis had been incarcerated since April 25 of this year on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and simple battery, DeKalb County jail records show.
