DeKalb K9 Recovering After Shot During 'Suspicious' Call
A DeKalb County Police Department K9 is recovering from surgery after he was shot Tuesday afternoon when officers responded to a call.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — DeKalb County Police Department K9 D'Jango is recovering from surgery after he was shot Tuesday afternoon when officers responded to a suspicious person call at a convenience store in Stone Mountain.
Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the department tweeted they were on the scene of a K9 officers shot on North Hairston Road in Stone Mountain. Shortly after, the department said the K9 was alive and in surgery.
After 6 p.m., the department posted that D'Jango was recovering from surgery.

On Wednesday morning, the department said D’Jango is still recovering from his first surgery at the Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital in Sandy Springs. He’s expected to undergo a second surgery within the next day or so, as soon as the doctors clear him, they said.
"D’Jango was injured near his pelvic/lower abdomen area with significant damage to his right rear femur," the department said. "No significant organs were damaged. His condition is still very serious, but with each hour that passes, we’re more optimistic about his recovery!

Police said one suspect was shot and transported to a local hospital where he later died. No human officers were injured.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations posted they were requested by the DeKalb County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting. This is the 69th officer involved shooting that the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2019, Public Information Officer Nelly Miles said.
