DeKalb To Offer $100 For COVID-19 Vaccinations Saturday

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Anyone who gets vaccinated against COVID-19 at a DeKalb County event this weekend will get a $100 prepaid debit card, county officials said — and could even get to meet NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo and gospel singer Dottie Peoples.

The vaccination event, scheduled Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Stonecrest Mall, will feature guest appearances by Mutombo and Peoples, as well as tumpeter Milkshake Mayfield and gospel radio host Larry Tinsley, a news release said.

Mutombo also attended a DeKalb vaccination event Aug. 14, where more than 1,100 people participated.

“DeKalb County’s last vaccination event was very successful, with more than 1,150 people getting vaccinated,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “By using the right message, respected messengers, a convenient location and an attractive incentive, we are making different in the fight against this deadly virus.”

Voluntary COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered to anyone age 12 and older, and all participants will get the $100 debit card. Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be available. Attendees will be able to stay in their cars while getting vaccinated, and walk-ups are also welcome.

MedCura Health will also be there to offer COVID-19 tests, if someone needs to get tested.

While the vaccine is free, attendees are asked to bring their insurance information and a photo ID, if available. No participant will be billed, but an administration fee may be applied for Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance.
