DeKalb Offering Residents 'People's Law School'

The curriculum will include instruction on civil, criminal, ordinance and mental health court matters.

From DeKalb County: County’s Chief Magistrate Judge Berryl A. Anderson is proud to announce the creation of a new community education program this fall- the People’s Law School. The program, which is free and open to all DeKalb County residents, is designed to provide adults with a general overview of the court system in Georgia, with a special emphasis on DeKalb Magistrate Court. The curriculum will include instruction on civil, criminal, ordinance and mental health court matters. Registration will open on Friday, August 17 and end on Friday, September 14. Space is limited.

“In the 18 years I’ve been on the Magistrate Court bench, I have witnessed many changes with the court, however, the one thing that remains unchanged is that Magistrate Court is truly The People’s Court. When I speak to citizens of our community, I am always asked about what Magistrate Court really does. The People’s Law School was created to answer that question”, said Judge Anderson.

Classes will take place on Monday evenings for four weeks, beginning October 15- November 5 from 6-8 p.m. After completion of all class sessions, participants will “graduate” from the People’s Law School, however, this course is not for educational credit and nothing presented or discussed should be considered legal advice.
