DeKalb Officer Stabbed In Head, Arm During Call For Service: GBI
A man accused of attacking a DeKalb County Police officer, stabbing them in the head and arm, was critically injured in a police shooting.
DECATUR, GA — Authorities say a 30-year-old man was critically injured after being shot during an incident involving a DeKalb County Police officer who was stabbed in the head Monday in Decatur.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released new details into the incident, which occurred around 8:15 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Decatur Avenue.
DKPD was called to the scene about a suspicious man, police said.

The officer saw the man appearing to be asleep on the property of a vacant business, the GBI said.
"During the interaction, the man refused to identify himself and reached for a sharp-edged weapon," the GBI said in a news release.

The officer then tried to detain the man after seeing him reach for the weapon, the GBI said.
The man was then accused of attacking the officer and knocking him to the ground.
Authorities say the man stabbed the officer in the head and arm. The officer then shot the man, the GBI said.
Emergency medical technicians were requested, and both the man and officer were taken to a local hospital for treatment, the GBI said.
The man was in critical condition while the officer was in stable condition, the GBI said.
Once the GBI's investigation is completed, the case file will be given to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
