Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform in Avondale Estates for the city's 4th of July celebration. The concert will kick off at the newly open-to-the-public Town Green at 8:00 p.m., with fireworks starting once the sun has gone down. Local food and beverage vendors, including Taylor'd BBQ, Smoke & Honey, and Banjo Coffee, will be available from 6:00 p.m. onward. (Decaturish.com)
- A man from Conyers is accused of setting a car on fire in Avondale Estates on May 23. The suspect, who was reportedly seen pouring gasoline on a burning car, admitted to smoking meth before the incident. The Conyers man faces arson charges in the case; the fire remains under investigation by police. (Decaturish.com)
- A basketball camp for deaf and hard-of-hearing children returned to Decatur for its 42nd year. The Mike Glenn Basketball Camp for the Deaf, created by former pro player and broadcast analyst Mike Glenn, started on Jun. 20 and runs through Jun. 24 at the Clairmont Presbyterian Church. This year's attendees met some big-name guests, including Terry Cummings, Shorty Coleman, Michael Douglass, and Jerome Jurenovich. (Champion)
