Police: Dunwoody Man Killed By Romantic Partner, DeKalb Teacher

Police believe Roy McClendon-Thompson and James Curtis Jones were romantically involved. Jones was shot to death Monday morning.

DECATUR, GA -- The man who allegedly shot and killed a Dunwoody man outside his apartment complex Monday morning, and later died following a police chase, was reportedly a teacher with the DeKalb County school district. School officials have confirmed that Roy McClendon-Thompson was a teacher at McNair High School in Gresham Park.

Thompson is accused of killing James Curtis Jones outside his Arrive Perimeter apartment near Perimeter Mall. Police found Jones' body around 5:30 am after responding to numerous 911 calls regarding shots fires and screaming.

Dunwoody police said they believe the two were romantically involved and there were allegations of infidelity leading up to the shooting.

Police later identified McLendon-Thompson as a suspect and went to his Ellenwood, Georgia, residence to locate him. Police said McLendon-Thompson fled in a vehicle, and after being pursued into Clayton County, was involved in a vehicle accident and died from his injuries.

McNair High School's principal sent the following letter home to parents:

"Dear McNair High School Parents:

"It is with great sadness that we inform you that one of our teachers, Mr. Roy McClendon-Thompson, was killed in a car accident on yesterday.

"To help our students and staff members deal with the sudden loss, we had grief counselors at school this morning. The Counselors facilitated individual, small group, and whole class sessions.

"The team of Grief Counselors will be on site tomorrow as well.

"We do not have any details about Mr. McClendon’s services at this time. We will provide details once the family provides the information. Let’s encourage one another and keep the family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
