DeKalb's $438M Project Will Repair County's Sewer System

DeKalb County will repair and improve the sewer system after reporting gallons of spilled sewage.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County will install new sewer tanks and replace or repair nearly 60 miles of large sewer lines using hundreds of millions of dollars in loans.

The $438 million project will mainly go towards the Snapfinger sewer basin, which includes Decatur, Stone Mountain and southwest DeKalb, county CEO Michael Thurman said during a Monday town hall, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Due to Hurricane Delta, the county has had 7.3 million gallons of spilled sewage. Thurman said the project will create nearly 1,900 jobs from 2021 through 2026.
