Developer To Discuss Proposal for Apartments, Stores on Wednesday Night: Report

The nine-acre development would be built at the corner of Ponce de Leon and Arcadia avenues.

DECATUR, GA — In an informal public session, residents will get a look Wednesday evening at a concept for a residential/retail project that could bring a new grocery store to the area, according to a media report.

The nine-acre, mixed-used project is proposed for the corner at Ponce de Leon and Arcadia avenues, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The meeting is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Decatur Library Auditorium, 215 Sycamore St.

Plans for the five-story project at Sam's Crossing are in the early stages, and they have not been submitted to DeKalb County, according to the Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association (DHNA). The goal of tonight's meeting "is to provide the concept of the proposed redevelopment and get initial feedback," DHNA President Deanne Thomas said in an email.

An attorney for the developer said the project would have about 250 apartments and a number of stores, including a grocery store.

The DHNA's president said the new grocery store could be a Publix, AJC.com reported. The basic details of the Sam's Crossing project were presented at last week's DHNA meeting. To find out more, click here.
