Downtown Decatur Beach Party Is Returning
City officials made the announcement before Mayor Patti Garrett's State of the City speech.
DECATUR, GA -- After a year off, the popular Decatur Beach Party is coming back.
Slide the City, the troubled water-slide event that replaced the beach party last year, won’t be back -- at least not for now.
That’s all according to Decatur Business Association President Tim Martin, speaking Tuesday before Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett’s State of the City address.

Decaturish covered the event and reported that the Beach Party will be held June 17.
The ticketed event is the business association’s largest fundraiser of the year. It features truckloads of sand, live music, games, food trucks and other attractions.

“Obviously there was a huge demand for it to come back and we’re very excited to bring it back this year,” Martin said, according to Decaturish. “It’s going to be bigger and better than ever.”
Slide the City had to be shut down early after a county work crew hit a fire hydrant the Thursday before the event, leading to days of low water pressure and a countywide boil-water advisory.
