Downtown Decatur Verizon Store Robbed At Gunpoint

"You know what this is," the armed man said to store employees, according to Decatur Police.

DECATUR, GA — The Verizon store in downtown Decatur was robbed at gunpoint Friday night, according to police.

At about 8:38 p.m., Decatur Police responded to the store, in the 300 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue. There, employees said a man had come into the store and asked if they had phones. The employees said they then heard the sound of a round of ammunition being chambered into a handgun.

The man ordered the employees to the rear of the store and said, "You know what this is," according to police. He took an undetermined number of cellphones and left through the front door, getting into a red vehicle, possibly driven by a second person, police said.

The suspect in the case is described as a black male, between 20-30 years old and standing about 5'9" with a slender build. He was wearing a burgundy, hooded sweatshirt, a skull cap, wool gloves, boots and baggy pants and was armed with a handgun.

No employees were injured during the robbery, according to police.
