ElectroBike Georgia Collecting Bicycles to Donate to DeKalb's Clarkston Community Center

Trade in an unwanted bicycle for $150 off a new ElectroBike. Old bikes will be refurbished and donated to the Center's Communicycle program.

Just in time for the holidays, ElectroBike Georgia is offering a new program to benefit adults and children served by the Clarkston Community Center as well as new ElectroBike owners. Through January 2017, anyone who brings a bicycle in to the ElectroBike store in Brookhaven will receive a $150 discount on the purchase of a new ElectroBike, while their old bicycle will be donated to Clarkston Community Center’s Communicycle program. Old bicycles do not have to be in working order, since the service technicians at ElectroBike and the Communicycle staff and volunteers will repair them. www.electrobikega.com, www.clarkstoncommunitycenter.org/programs/recreation/communicycle.

“As more and more people are transitioning from a traditional bicycle to an ElectroBike, I started thinking about how many unused bicycles might be sitting around in garages,” said Eric Hunger, president of ElectroBike Georgia. “At the same time, I learned about the Clarkston Community Center’s Communicycle program that offers affordable bike repair, bicycle donations and education to adults and children. This is exactly the kind of work we want to support at ElectroBike. This new partnership gives my staff and our customers an easy, but effective way to help others in our community. My goal is to collect at least 100 bicycles for the Center by Christmas.”

“For many people we serve at the Center, especially for refugees, having a bicycle can mean the difference between employment and unemployment, yet the cost of a new bicycle is often out of reach for them,” said Cindy Bowden, executive director of the Clarkston Community Center. “Justine Okello manages our Communicycle program, offering bicycle repair in our campus bike shop, conducting bicycle safety classes and leading recreational bike rides on the weekends. We rely on donations of money, tools and bicycles to keep this important program running, so we are delighted to have a new partnership with ElectroBike. Like ElectroBike, we believe bicycling is an important, sustainable and viable transportation alternative.”
