Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

1. The historic Candler family property that was once a grand estate built by Coca-Cola heir Asa G. Candler, Jr. will likely become a senior living facility. Emory University is presenting public meetings on Jun. 28 and 29 in the eighth-floor conference room of the Claudia Nance Rollins building at the Rollins School of Public Health complex to discuss the plans for the property. The university's hope is to begin the project by 2023 or 2024. (Decaturish.com)
2. Decatur police received a report that a woman's dog left her home and went toward Glenlake Park, and shots were heard around 3:30 a.m. When the woman searched for her dog, she found pools of blood on the sidewalk in the park, and the dog had a gunshot wound to the nose. Police say the dog is in stable condition, but they are still searching for who is responsible. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
3. Bookstores, including Decatur's Charis Books & More, began responding to the demise of Roe v. Wade by setting up special book displays featuring books on reproductive rights, abortion rights, and misogyny; selling political message stickers; and letting employees off early to participate in protests. E.R. Anderson, the executive director of Charis Circle, mentioned that customers were "processing their rage and also their grief," while also "seeking a space in which to cry among people who get it." • Goodwill of North Georgia is hosting the TeamWRX Hiring Event today (Jun. 28) at the Decatur Career Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Metro Atlanta eXchange for Workforce Solutions)
• Join the DeKalb County Police Athletic League (PAL) Unit for an "After Dark Basketball Summer League" every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. through the month of July! Youth ages 15-20 years old are invited to come out and play. For more info on how to join, call 404-664-1225. (Nextdoor)
• To bridge the gap between the youths of DeKalb County and the DeKalb County Police Department, the DeKalb County Police Athletic League (PAL) Unit is hosting an "After Dark Basketball Summer League" Program.
