🌱 Extension Of Mental Health Coverage + Employee Sues Chick-Fil-A
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Decatur-Avondale Estates.
Hey, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Decatur-Avondale Estates Daily. Let's get this Tuesday started off right, with a quick review of the most important things happening around town.
First, today's weather:
A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 88 Low: 73.
Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:
- Georgia's new mental health parity law took effect on Jul. 1, requiring Georgia insurers to cover mental health at the same level they cover physical health. Kim Jones, executive director of National Alliance on Mental Illness, Georgia says the bill asserts that "mental health matters and is just as important as your physical health." Individuals can report suspected parity violations to the state insurance department. (Dawson Community News)
- A transgender former Chick-fil-A employee suing the company accuses them of sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. After being sexually harassed by a coworker, the woman reported the events to her manager, who she says told her "it should be an honor" for anyone to "like her that much." The lawsuit outlines an increase in harassment from other employees in the downtown Decatur store, who even misgendered the woman and claimed her hormone treatments made her smell. Ultimately, the woman alleges she was fired because of her gender identity and the attitude of her coworkers towards her. (Macon Telegraph)
- Sherbrooke Drive will be closed Jul. 11-15 for storm drain installation. The 24-inch storm drain will increase the longevity of the roads as well as reduce flooding along Sherbrooke Drive. Road closure and detour signs will be placed along in the area to keep drivers alert and up-to-date on the construction. (Decaturish.com)
