Employment Workshop Guides Those with Developmental Disabilities

At Tuesday's event in Decatur, employment specialists will show attendees how they can navigate the job market.

All About Developmental Disabilities will host an employment workshop on Tuesday in Decatur that offers instruction and support to those entering the workforce with developmental impairments.

The event will be held at AADD’s Family Support Center at 125 Clairemont Ave., Suite 300, from 6 to 8 p.m. People with developmental disabilities and their families may speak with employment specialists about challenges in the workplace and opportunities for supported employment.

During their presentation, workshop speakers like Nathan Heald, the Supported Employment Manager at AADD, will address several issues:

  • Why employment should be a goal for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • What opportunities does employment provide?
  • What barriers might exist for the individual, the family, the employer, and the community in allowing the individual to achieve employment?
  • How do employment specialists address these barriers and advocate for individuals with disabilities?
  • What is the difference between supported employment and customized employment?
  • What services and funding are available to help individuals find employment in the community?

AADD is an organization that helps those living with developmental impairments get an education, enter the workforce, and become active in their communities.
