Strategies for Protecting Decatur’s Tree Canopy

The City of Decatur is currently crafting an Environmental Sustainability Plan as called for in the 2010 Decatur Strategic Plan.  In order to gather input on specific topic areas, the City is hosting sustainability dialogue sessions.

At this session, Ed Macie, City of Decatur Arborist and National Forester, will explain the resource value of Decatur’s current tree canopy and facilitate a community discussion on ways to preserve and replenish the tree canopy.  Strategies under consideration include amendments to the tree ordinance that would require a review, amendments to the permit process to remove trees from single family properties, and simple educational efforts.  The discussion provides the opportunity to make your voice heard or to gather more information on the subject.  We want to hear from you, so come talk trees!

For more information, or to leave a comment if you cannot make this session, please contact Lena Stevens, Resource Conservation Coordinator.
