DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A man who died in an explosion at the Redan Cove Apartment complex last week has been identified as 30-year-old James Douglas Lark, of Atlanta, WSB reports. According to the FBI, the explosion happened between two apartment buildings at the complex Nov 3.

According to Fox 5, the FBI executed a search warrant for a home on Paul Avenue in northwest Atlanta on Nov. 7 in connection to Lark's death. The home belonged to him. The FBI says Lark died when the explosive devices he was handling detonated.

WSB-TV says the explosion was investigated after the man's dismembered body was found by neighbors.

"I heard the boom and I thought it was a gunshot,” a neighbor told the station. "What I'm thinking was a leftover Halloween mannequin.”

The FBI said last week that this is an open investigation, only sharing that there is no suspicion of terrorism.

“We know where it happened, right where the individual was deceased," said FBI spokesperson Kevin Rowson to WSB-TV. "What he was doing between those two buildings, at that point, at 1:30 in the morning on Sunday, we don't know at this point."

WSB-TV reporter Nicole Carr reported that evidence has been sent to the FBI’s crime lab in Quantico, Virginia. Carr said investigators are focusing on a U-Haul truck near the scene. Residents of the apartment complex have still been able to enter their homes, she said.
