First-Ever Multi-School Band Concert to be Presented at Lakeside High School Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m.
The free concert will include student musicians from Lakeside High School, Henderson Middle School and seven area elementary schools.
David Fairchild, director of bands at DeKalb County’s Lakeside High School, has invited students from the Lakeside Cluster to participate in the cluster’s first-ever multi-school band concert. The performance, scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m., will include student musicians from Lakeside High School and Henderson Middle School, as well as students from the following elementary schools: Sagamore Hills, Oak Grove, Briarlake, Henderson Mill, Evansdale, Pleasantdale and Hawthorne. The concert will take place in the Lakeside High School Fine Arts Building (3801 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA 30345) and is free to the public.
“All of us who teach music within the Lakeside Cluster work together to instill an appreciation for music at a young age that we hope will last a lifetime,” said Fairchild, who himself grew up in the area and graduated from Lakeside High School. “By bringing the elementary, middle and high school students together for one gala performance, we hope to inspire the younger ones to continue to enjoy music through high school and beyond, while reminding our older students of how much they have learned and improved over the years. I think the performance will be a lot of fun, and encourage the public to come to this free concert and support all of these young musicians who have worked so hard.”
Lakeside High School’s award-winning band program is concluding its 51st year. Throughout each school year, the students perform during halftime at Lakeside’s football games and offer a number of public concerts. They also perform in local parades and festivals, and this past November were invited to Hawaii to march in the annual Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorating the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
