Five Finalists Selected For Decatur Overpass Mural

Thirty-eight artists or teams applied to paint the overpass

DECATUR, GA -- A field of dozens has been narrowed down to five finalists hoping to paint murals on a MARTA overpass in Decatur.

The city announced in a newsletter this week that the final artist will be chosen after a series of in-person interviews and community feedback.

Last year, the city received a $15,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission to help pay for a mural on the overpass, at West Trinity and Atlanta Avenue.

The city announced that 38 artists or teams applied to paint the mural.

The steering committee that whittled down the list consists of representatives from groups in the area where the mural will be.

They include the Decatur Housing Authority, Task Force for Global Health, Decatur Police Department, City Schools of Decatur, Ebster Recreation Center, Swanton Hill Neighborhood Association, Decatur Arts Alliance, MARTA and the city itself.
