Georgia Marching Band Set To Play In Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

Kings of Halftime from Lithonia will represent Georgia in the 2019 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

DEKALB COUNTY — If you’re a fan of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade who lives in Georgia, you’ve got added reason to tune into the festivities this year, which will be televised on NBC.

The Kings of Halftime from Lithonia, Georgia, will be one of 11 performing in the world-famous Thanksgiving parade.

The Georgia band is made up of 114 individuals and the turkey day performers will be playing “Before I Let Go” as they trot through the New York City streets. Established in 2001, this band is often known as the “Kings of Halftime.” It was the first American marching band to perform in Johannesburg, South Africa. The band served as the exhibition band for the 2006 Field Band Foundations South African National Championships. Plus, it was the lead band in the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.

The annual parade kicks off at 9 a.m. on Thursday in New York City, and you can watch the entire event on NBC. The Thanksgiving celebration will feature balloons, floats, clowns and performances from some of the biggest stars in music.

The parade's 16 balloons will not bob down Sixth Avenue Thanksgiving if wind conditions rise above 23 mph, as AccuWeather forecasters predict they might. Gusts on Thursday may run from 30 to 50 mph in Manhattan.

City rules have forbidden balloons to fly in high winds since 1997 when the Cat in the Hat blew off course and hurt four people. The final decision will likely be made Thursday morning.

Celine Dion, the Black Eyed Peas and Idina Menzel, among many others, will all add their incredible talent to the day of festivities.
